The police had to free Andrii Hayat.
The singer lived in the USA as a teenager / UNIAN collage / ScreenshotsUkrainian singer Andriy Hayat, better known simply as KHAYAT, said that as a teenager he fell in with religious fanatics in the United States of America, from whom the police had to save him.
In an interview with Slava Dyomin, the artist recalled how at the age of 15 he went to America for a year under the FLEX program, as part of which he was supposed to live with an American family. Alarm bells “rang” even before leaving Ukraine, because that family could talk to the boy for hours on Skype. Already in the United States, Andrii realized that he had fallen into a very religious family:
“They immediately set the boundaries very clearly: I have to go to church with them, I have to learn a certain number of prayers, I have to do some things around the house… We had a prayer before eating. We held hands. And until I read the prayer without mistakes, we didn’t eat. It could be two or four times. When I said I didn’t want to go to church, I was locked in a room. And another prayer was pushed under the door, which I had to learn.”
Once a plate was thrown at the boy’s head when he could not read the prayer correctly for the fifth time. After being locked in a room, Andriy realized it was time to ask his coordinator for help. In total, he lived with this family for almost three months.
We will remind you that KHAYAT made it to the finals of the National Selection for Eurovision 2026. The performer wants to represent Ukraine with the song “Hertsy”.
