The film was presented for the first time at the Sundance festival / UNIAN collage / Stills from the tapeUkrainian director Mstislav Chernov’s documentary “2000 meters to Andriivka” was qualified for the 98th Oscar in two categories: documentary and international films.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has published a long list of all films that meet the rules of the award and can claim a nomination. It included 201 documentaries, 86 international and 35 animated films. From these lists, the members of the Academy will choose the shortlist, which will be announced on December 16, and the official nominees – on January 22.
After a successful festival tour in 2025, the film “2000 meters to Andriivka” will officially appear on two streaming platforms. The first premiere will take place on November 25 on the American channel PBS and YouTube channel FRONTLINE PBS. The movie will be available to those who are in the US or have a US IP address. The premiere in Ukrainian will take place on Kyivstar TV on November 27.
The tape, like the director’s previous film “20 days in Mariupol”, was created in partnership between the Associated Press and FRONTLINE. AP Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Julie Pace said of her:
“2000 meters to Andriivka” is a deeply felt and uncompromising description of what is happening on the battlefield. Eyewitness journalism is extremely important – especially in times of conflict – to show the world the real facts, and that’s what this film does.”
As UNIAN reported, at the end of August, the Ukrainian Oscar Committee chose Chernov’s film “2000 meters to Andriivka” to participate in the “Oscar” in the “Best International Feature Film” category.
