Ukrainian OscarThe name of Mstislav Chernov was loudly throughout the world in 2022, when his first full -length dock “20 days in Mariupol” won a number of the most prestigious awards, including the BAFTA and the Pulitzer Prize. But most importantly – the first Oscar in the history of independent Ukraine.
The desperate heroism, with whom the director was filming the footage of the surrounding city, and the artistic value that the painting received as a result did not leave almost anyone indifferent. That is why his next work was waiting with so impartial.
Festival hit“2000 meters to Andreevka” has not yet gotten its Oscar, but its trophy shelf is not empty. At the popular American Film Festival “Sandance” Mstislav Chernov was awarded a prize for the best directing, and on the domestic Docudays UA the ribbon won in three categories: the main “Docu / World” competition, the nomination “Rights now!” from a human rights jury, as well as in the audience.

At the same time, at Metacritic, cinema experts rated it at 89 out of 100 points with a honors “mandatory for review”, which corresponds to the characteristic of “universal recognition”.

In particular, on August 18, 2025, the director accompanied the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Washington for negotiation with US President Donald Trump.
