The United States has allocated $3.4 billion in additional direct budget support to Ukraine, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said on Monday, UNN reports citing the press service of the U.S. Treasury Department.

Details

“In coordination with USAID and the State Department, this $3.4 billion in assistance marks the final disbursement of funds allocated under the Bipartisan Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2024. Our direct budgetary support continues to be contingent on reforms to strengthen law enforcement, increase the transparency and effectiveness of government institutions, and strengthen anti-corruption rules and procedures,” Yellen said.

The U.S. Treasury Secretary emphasized that this “direct budgetary support for Ukraine comes at a critical time when Russia is intensifying its attacks on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure.

“This disbursement follows the United States’ disbursement of our portion of the $50 billion G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration loan initiative to Ukraine, paid for with windfall proceeds from Russia’s own immobilized assets,” Yellen said.

“Ukraine’s success is in America’s core national interest,” she said.

AddendumAddendum

Earlier on Monday, U.S. President Joe Biden announced an additional $2.5 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, which is not linked to direct budgetary aid.

In the almost three years since the war began, Washington has allocated a total of $175 billion in aid to Ukraine, Reuters reports.
