Ukrzaliznytsia will receive almost half a billion euros from the EBRD: what will it be spent on?

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will provide JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” with EUR 480 million for the purchase of electric locomotives and the construction of a network of distributed power generation. This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction – Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba. Yes, within the signed loan agreements under state guarantees, “Ukrzaliznytsia” will receive a loan of up to 300 million euros for the purchase of dual-powered electric locomotives. The second agreement provides for the construction of a gas-fired power generation plant with a capacity of up to 270 MW, in close proximity to the railway’s key traction substations. It is expected that this generation will partially cover the needs of the UZ itself and other critical infrastructure facilities. For this, the EBRD will allocate a loan of 180 million euros.
