NPC Ukrenergo has received 86 million euros from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to equip anti-drone protection at key substations of the power system. This is reported by the EIB, UNN reports .

Details

It is noted that  this funding was provided under the EIB’s Emergency Solidarity Package for Ukraine, developed in cooperation with the European Commission. It was the first component of the Ukraine Energy Support Plan adopted by the EIB in October 2024 to address the significant damage to energy infrastructure caused by Russia’s war.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko said that Ukraine’s infrastructure remains one of the main targets of Russian aggression and terror.

The enemy has already fired more than 1,000 missiles and sends hundreds of drones at our power plants, substations and power lines every day

According to Oleksiy Brekht, acting head of Ukrenergo, protection of critical substation equipment is necessary due to constant Russian attacks.

The effectiveness of the projects already implemented was confirmed during the recent massive attacks with missiles and drones in November and December. We continue to work on fortification. The more substations we manage to protect, the more reliable the country’s power system will become, and the risk of outages for consumers will be minimized

According to Ukrenergo, the total amount of credit support provided by the EIB to the company since the beginning of the full-scale war has already reached EUR 136 million.

Recall

On December 12 , the newly appointed Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo held its first meeting and elected a chairman and a deputy chairman. Independent representative Jeppe Kofod became the chairman of the Supervisory Board. He was the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Denmark from 2019 to 2022.
