On Friday, the Ukrainian delegation is in Washington for a new round of negotiations on an agreement that could give the United States a significant share of Ukraine’s natural resources
It is reported that these negotiations will be the first personal meeting since the White House presented a revised draft agreement, which revived the strict requirements that Kyiv had previously rejected, effectively returning the negotiations to the starting point.
It is planned that the negotiations will last for two days and will be mostly technical in nature.
The Ukrainian delegation is headed by Deputy Minister of Economy for Trade Taras Kachka, and includes representatives of the Ministries of Economy and Justice. The White House did not provide details of the negotiations.
Addition People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that the United States offered Ukraine an agreement allowing the extraction of all minerals on its territory. The document, dated March 23, sent by the American side states that it concerns the extraction of all minerals on the entire territory of Ukraine, both by state and private companies, and 5 people will participate in the management of the agreement: 3 of them from the United States with full veto power.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Ukraine received a new version of the agreement on minerals from the United States, which differs from the previous document. Ukraine does not plan to recognize military assistance from the United States as a debt of the agreement.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated that any agreement with the United States on minerals cannot harm Ukraine’s aspirations to join the European Union, against the background of Kyiv sending a team to Washington for negotiations this week.
Zelenskyy said that lawyers will present him with the main points of the Ukrainian draft agreement on minerals with the United States, and after that the technical team will be ready to travel to the United States and for dialogue with American partners.
