US President-elect Donald Trump nominated Chris Wright, the founder and CEO of the Denver-based oil service company Liberty Energy, to the position of Secretary of Energy.

Reuters writes about it.

Wright is an advocate of fossil fuel use. He is expected to support Trump’s plan to maximize oil and gas production and look for ways to boost electricity generation, which is seeing demand rise for the first time in decades.

“He also probably shares Trump’s opposition to global cooperation in the fight against climate change. Wright called climate change activists alarmists and compared the Democrats’ efforts to fight global warming to Soviet-style communism,” writes Reuters.

“There is no climate crisis and we are not in the midst of an energy transition,” Wright said in a video posted on his LinkedIn profile last year.

Wright, who has no political experience, has written extensively about the need to increase fossil fuel production to lift people out of poverty.

“Under Biden, U.S. oil production has reached the highest level ever produced by any country, and it is unclear how much Wright and the new administration will be able to increase it.

Most drilling decisions are made by private companies operating on land not owned by the federal government,” Reuters noted.

If confirmed by the Senate, Wright will replace Jennifer Granholm, an advocate of electric vehicles and new energy sources, as secretary.

Wright himself said on the X social network that at the head of the US Department of Energy, he will focus on “making American energy more affordable, reliable and safe.”
