The US Treasury Secretary considers the mineral agreement beneficial for Ukraine and expects it to be signed

The mineral agreement proposed by the United States to Ukraine is beneficial to both countries. In addition, it was part of President Donald Trump’s peace plan. This was stated by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. He hopes that it will be signed in the near future, but suspects resistance from those who are currently receiving money from these resources. We are expecting the Ukrainian technical team at the beginning of next week, and I hope we can sign this agreement and get back to a mutually beneficial situation.

The US Treasury Secretary also noted that this agreement was part of President Donald Trump’s peace plan, and it aims to make the US and Ukraine partners and bring them closer together.

This will be a symbol for the Russian leadership that the United States is not abandoning Ukraine, but, importantly, it will show the American people that we have an economic interest and that we are not just providing huge grants, as has been the history of USAID. So, Ukraine succeeds, we succeed, and this can be a long-term partnership.

“I think if we go back to the deal, one of the best things about the deal is that it guarantees that the money will go to the American people and the Ukrainian people. It wasn’t one of those predatory Chinese deals…: here’s a loan, you’ll never be able to pay it back, we’ll get this. It’s a real economic partnership. They invest assets, we can invest loans from our foreign banks, we invest American know-how, and we don’t make money until they make money,” added Scott Bessent.

According to the American politician, this agreement is not liked by people who are currently receiving money from these resources, and this is part of the problem.

At the same time, the head of the United States Treasury expressed hope that the delay in signing the agreement was a mistake, not a feature of the system, and it has been corrected. According to him, some officials from Zelensky’s entourage and from the Cabinet of Ministers are very good.

President Trump wanted to conclude this agreement with the Ukrainians in order to then be able to address the Russian leadership and show them that we support the Ukrainians, but on an economic basis. And then the Russians will also be interested in sitting down at the negotiating table. And so the sequence was broken, but I think we can fix it.

In his opinion, one should not pay too much attention to the amounts that are mentioned regarding the amount of aid, because if this agreement works, then this money may turn out to be a trifle.

“When the Iron Curtain fell, the economies of Ukraine and Poland were about the same size. Now Poland is three and a half or four times bigger. Poland will have one of the highest GDPs per capita in the world, higher than some Western European countries. Ukraine … is being held back by various aspects of kleptocracy. So I hope that with the help of the United States and President Trump, who is concluding this peace agreement, the Ukrainian people will have a better future,” concluded the US Treasury Secretary.
