The US Commerce Department is expected to propose banning Chinese software and hardware in vehicles on Monday.

About this informs Reuters with reference to its own sources.

The Biden administration has expressed serious concerns about Chinese companies’ collection of data on American drivers and infrastructure, as well as potential foreign manipulation of Internet-connected vehicles and navigation systems.

The proposed regulation would ban the import and sale of vehicles from China with key communications equipment or software or hardware from the PRC, two Reuters sources said.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said in May that the risks associated with Chinese software or hardware in connected American vehicles are significant.

The department also plans to propose that the software ban take effect starting in the 2027 model year, while the hardware ban will take effect in January of the 2029 or 2030 model year. The ban will cover cars with certain Bluetooth, satellite and wireless functions, as well as highly autonomous vehicles that can operate without a driver behind the wheel.

The bans will also apply to other foreign adversaries of the US, including Russia, the publication’s sources said.

We will remind:

Minister of Commerce of China statedthat the introduction of EU tariffs on electric vehicles will seriously hinder trade and investment cooperation and harm both China and Germany.
