This happened within the framework of UNESCO’s declaration of the Year of Parajanov. During the presentation of the restored version at the Toronto Film Festival, Martin Scorsese told future viewers that they will see images and visions “that are almost unlike anything in the history of cinema.” It is interesting that thanks to the film “The Color of the Pomegranate” the director managed to gain world fame. The audience in Ukraine was able to fully appreciate the plot and picture only now, because due to Soviet censorship, Ukrainian society lost the original version of the film, and Paradzhanov himself was in Soviet prisons a few years after the end of filming. “Thanks to the addition of tapes of legendary Ukrainian filmmakers to our video library, it is important for us to reproduce and show Ukrainian culture—one of the important missions of Kyivstar TV,” said Pavlo Rybak, CEO of Kyivstar TV.
