Poland will establish the production of nitrocellulose and gunpowder, necessary for large-caliber ammunition.
About this informs Ministry of Defense of Poland.
The relevant agreement was signed on Monday, November 18, by the Industrial Development Agency, Grupa Azoty, Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa and Mesko.
According to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosyniak-Kamiś, the development of explosives production facilities is of crucial importance for the future production of ammunition in Poland.
The head of the Ministry of Defense also announced plans to build a factory for the production of ammunition in the country.
“Poland is a big country and should be able to produce 155-mm ammunition independently. Our goal is not one plant, but several, and to work with NATO and EU partners to join forces,” the Polish minister said.
According to him, the government will allocate about 3 billion zlotys (almost 700 million euros) for the construction of a factory for the production of ammunition.
Work on the construction of new facilities is planned to begin in Tarnów in about a year.
Grupa Azoty is one of the largest chemical holdings in Europe, specializing in the production of nitrogen and complex fertilizers, as well as structural plastics, oxoalcohols and plasticizers. The largest shareholder of Grupa Azoty is the State Treasury of Poland (33%).
