Their products are used in military equipment – such supplies are prohibited by Western sanctions. This is stated in a joint investigation by The Insider and the Czech publication Investigace, writes The Moscow Times. European companies do business through subsidiaries and firms owned by their top managers. The turnover of local units began to increase after the start of the war and reached almost 6.4 billion rubles by 2023. For example, in Yekaterinburg, the machine-building plant “GRS Ural” continues to operate, the controlling stake in which belongs to the Czech TOS Varnsdorf. In 2023, the company increased its business volume by 1.5 times. Advertising: During production in Russia, the plant uses components imported from the Czech Republic and buys machine tools there. TOS Varnsdorf acts as the consignor and supplier in most cases. According to data at the end of 2023, the balance sheet of “GRS Ural” listed various products with a total value of 560 million rubles. The company’s revenue increased to 673.4 million rubles compared to 436.3 million rubles a year earlier. In addition, from February 2022 to September 2024, TOS Varnsdorf imported products worth more than $12 million to Russia. The manufacturer’s “daughter” – “TOS Warnsdorf-Rus”, as well as “KR Group” and “KR-Prom”, which belong to its partners from “GRM Ural”, participated in the deliveries. The plant directly imported $943,300 worth of equipment to Russia. Advertisement: “KR Group” and “KR-Prom” also imported products of other Czech manufacturers – Esa Plating En SRO and CZ Tech Celakovice AS for $496,600 and $820,200 in accordance. In the last case, the sender was the Egyptian company Egyptian German For Engineering Works, which delivered machines with a total weight of 12 tons to the port of Novorossiysk.
