According to him, the funds are planned to be used to cover priority needs:
- procurement of weapons (including drones), ammunition, military equipment, equipment
- timely payments of financial support to military personnel
- social support of military families
“We clearly understand from which sources these expenses will be covered. These are funds within the framework of the ERA initiative, reduction of non-priority budget expenditures, savings on public debt servicing and other items,” the head of the Ministry of Defense said.
Shmyhal added that the government will adapt the budget “to the realities of modern war.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko reported that the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to the state budget for 2025, providing an additional 324.7 billion hryvnias for defense. Of this amount, more than 310 billion are planned to be directed to the general fund.
In particular, it is proposed to allocate 202 billion to the financial support of the military, 100 to armaments, 8 billion to other military expenses.
Svyridenko added that the government is counting on the quick adoption of changes in the parliament.
In September she reported that the Cabinet of Ministers approved the draft state budget for 2026 and forwards it to the Verkhovna Rada.
