Apple is obliged to pay 500 million euros for limiting the freedom of developers, which the company forbidden to direct users to alternative methods of payment outside the App Store.
META, which owns social networks of Facebook and Instagram, has received a fine of 200 million euros for the “board or agree” system, for which users of these platforms have either had to pay for their use or consent to the processing of personal data.
At the same time, according to representatives of the European Commission, Meta and Apple should eliminate the violations within 60 days, otherwise they will be threatened with “regular penalties”.

According to AFP, Apple stated that they would challenge the European Commission, calling it “another example of an unjust attack” on a company that harms the privacy of its users.
Meta has accused the EU of an attempt to “interfere with successful American business, allowing Chinese and European companies to work at other standards.”
Instead, the EU spokesman Thomas Renier stated that the EU “no matter” who owns the company and where it is located.
These are the first sanctions imposed by the EU of Digital Market Act (DMA), which came into force last year and is aimed at protecting competition in a digital economy.
