What has changed
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has extended the “Contract 18-24” initiative to servicemen who voluntarily entered military service under the age of 25 after February 24, 2022.
The government decree came into force on February 13, 2025. The Ministry of Defense explained the conditions for receiving the payment and the peculiarities of its calculation.
Who is eligible for paymentServicemen of the rank and file, sergeant and senior officer ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are entitled to receive the reward. The right to receive must be consistent with the following criteria:
- servicemen were accepted or called up for military service during martial law under the age of 25;
- took direct part in hostilities in the areas of hostilities for a total of at least 6 months (as of February 13, 2025);
- continued to serve in the army at the time the government decree came into force (February 13, 2025);
- have not been brought to criminal, administrative or disciplinary responsibility for military offenses two or more times.
Servicemen who participated in hostilities for less than 6 months but were wounded or captured (except in cases of voluntary surrender) during their service are also entitled to the full amount of the payment.
How the reward is paidThe reward is paid once for the entire period of service and is transferred to the serviceman’s card account.
For those who participated in hostilities for less than 6 months (as of February 13, 2025), the amount is calculated proportionally: 1/6 of UAH 1 million for every 30 days of direct participation in hostilities.
Comment
Many young people voluntarily stood up to defend the country even before the 18-24 contract appeared, and our task is to give them their due. The process of receiving payments is as convenient as possible. The serviceman does not need to proactively apply for this issue. The registration of payments is entrusted to the commanders of military units, who must collect the entire package of documents, including by sending requests to other units where the serviceman served earlier
Reminder
The Ministry of Defense has launched the “Contract 18-24” project – a voluntary initiative for Ukrainians in the 18-24 age category. The contract will provide for enhanced training, cash support of UAH 1 million, preferential mortgage, etc.
