“85 million euros through EBRD instruments for the purchase of additional gas volume for Ukraine. Work on obtaining a corresponding grant from one of the European countries is already being completed,” he wrote in his Telegram channel.
According to the minister, he told the head of the EBRD about the difficult situation in Ukraine’s energy system due to damage caused by Russian attacks and repair work:
“Continuation of financial support from the EBRD to the Ukrainian companies Ukrenergo and Ukrhydroenergo is extremely necessary. This helps to provide repairs, equipment and implement new solutions so that people have light and warmth.”
Shmyhal thanked Renault-Basso and the EBRD team for their decisive and consistent support to Ukraine, which helps maintain stability and rebuild what the enemy destroyed.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, Russia has been striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Since the beginning of the fall of 2025, Russian forces have intensified their attacks on the Ukrainian energy industry.
After the last massive attacks of the Russian Federation, the power system of Ukraine is in a state of emergency, the most difficult situation – in Kyiv and Kyiv region.
Security Service of Ukraine qualifies Russia’s strikes on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure as crimes against humanity. The SBU previously noted that since the beginning of this year’s heating season, it has documented at least 256 aerial attacks of the Russian Federation on energy facilities and heat supply systems of Ukraine.
