The European Union intends to adopt the next package of sanctions against Russia on February 24, the third anniversary of the Russian Federation’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by the German publication Welt am Sonntag, writes “European Truth”. The publication received information about the planned step from diplomatic circles in Brussels. This will be the 16th package of EU sanctions in connection with the full-scale attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine. Informed EU diplomats said the package should send a “clear signal” to Moscow and would include “measures against specific sectors of the Russian economy that have so far not been covered at all or have been covered to an insufficient extent.” In addition, the 16th package of sanctions will include further sanctions against individuals and organizations that “should be considered propagandists of the Russian regime and responsible for undermining the territorial integrity of Ukraine.” The European Commission and the European External Action Service would also like to impose entry bans and asset freezes on others who have spied for Russia and participated in disinformation campaigns, including in Germany. At the same time, Brussels said that it will be “difficult” to trace the involvement of individuals in the so-called hybrid Russian attacks and to prove their involvement in the crime. For this reason, it has not yet been decided whether sanctions will be imposed on February 24 for spying for Russia and disinformation. Only on December 16, the Council of the EU adopted the 15th package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, another 52 ships from the Russian “shadow fleet” were punished by a ban on access to ports and certain services. Also in December, the EU imposed sanctions for the first time due to the so-called hybrid Russian attacks. European truth
