In Russia, there is a shortage of apples, and in order to reduce prices, the country’s government announced plans to buy them, in particular, from Transnistria and North Korea.
The Russian publication The Moscow Times writes about it.
At the beginning of October, Rossilhospnadzor reported that due to May frosts in the central and northwestern regions of the Russian Federation, the current apple harvest will be only 30-40% of the usual, which has already led to an increase in product prices.
At the same time, Putin demanded to prevent a jump in apple prices back in June, when the Ministry of Agriculture first reported the loss of part of the crop.
According to Rosstat data, since the beginning of 2024, apples have risen in price by 12.83%. To reduce prices, the government announced plans to import apples from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, Serbia, China, Belarus, Transnistria and even North Korea.
According to the results of January-July, China became one of the main suppliers of apples to Russia: in seven months, the country sent 22,200 tons of fruit to the Russian market, which is almost three times more than a year earlier.
We will remind:
Russia is importing butter from the United Arab Emirates and Turkey to curb rising prices that have worried consumers.
