Every second Airbus A320/A321neo plane has stopped flying in Russia: out of 66 at the disposal of Russian airlines, 34 no longer take to the air.
About this writes the Russian “Kommersant” with reference to sources in the aviation industry.
The most difficult situation occurred at the largest private airline in Russia – S7. It has 31 out of 39 A320/A321neo aircraft between three and seven years old not flying. Aeroflot has two of nine such aircraft in service.
As the publication writes, the suspension of flights occurred due to difficulties with the maintenance of the American engines Pratt & Whitney (P&W) and French Leap.
At the same time, about half of idle liners may not return to flights. Yes, the engine resources of more than 20 liners in the S7 fleet are actually exhausted.
In addition, P&W recalled its engines last year, forcing airlines to cut flights, and this summer Airbus cut plans to deliver new planes due to a lack of engines from that company and Leap.
The situation with the French manufacturer is considered “less critical”: its engines require repairs on average every 2-2.5 years, while P&W’s – every one and a half years.
Sources of the publication predict that without repairs in Russia, the A320/A321neo aircraft will begin to be decommissioned en masse from 2026.
We will remind:
Russian airlines may close hundreds of domestic flights from January 1, 2025 due to the lack of subsidies from the state.
