Russians have faced a record rise in gasoline prices over the past 13 years. The Moscow Times writes about it. It is reported that drone attacks on oil refineries led to a reduction in fuel production of more than 10% in the first half of 2024. As of December 23, gasoline has risen in price by 11% and on average costs 60.57 rubles ($0.6) per liter. Moreover, in remote regions, such as the Far East, prices exceed the average level by a quarter.Advertisement: The publication notes that the increase in prices has become the largest since 2011, when the cost of gasoline jumped by 14.9%. For the first time in six years, gasoline prices are rising faster than general inflation, which, according to the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, will amount to 9.7%. This can lead to a further increase in the cost of goods, because the price of fuel is included in the cost of delivery. To control prices, the Russian government imposed a ban on the export of gasoline after the attacks on the refinery. By the end of May, the decline in fuel production reached 20% compared to December 2023. At the same time, production statistics were classified under the pretext of “geopolitics”. Advertisement: In 2025, analysts predict a further increase in gasoline prices in the Russian Federation within the range of 10-15%, and in an unfavorable scenario – up to 20%. The reasons will be an increase in transportation tariffs, an increase in excise taxes, and the impact of the devaluation of the ruble. The changes may bring an additional 170 billion rubles ($1.7 billion) to the budget of the Russian Federation, but will become a burden for consumers. We will remind: the Government of the Russian Federation has decided to ban the export of automobile gasoline in September and October. The Novoshakhty Oil Refinery, which is the largest in the south of Russia, stopped both primary oil processing units due to an attack by Ukrainian drones.
