According to the press service of the European Institution, it completes a process that will allow Bulgaria to become a 21st member of the Eurozone and gain benefits from the use of the common currency of the EU, the euro, since next year.
One of three legislative acts establishes an exchange rate between the euro and the Bulgarian lion at 1,95583 lions per euro. This corresponds to the current central course of the lion within the framework of the exchange rate (ERM II).
Earlier the European Parliament voted for Bulgaria’s accessionto the euro area. This news appeared against the backdrop of protest against the entry of Bulgaria to the Eurozone in front of the building of the European Commission (EC) in Sofia. Later, the Renaissance pro -Russian party organized a protest on Independence Square in Sofia.
The Convergence Report prepared by the European Commission is the basis for the EU Council’s decision on whether the member state complies with the conditions necessary for joining the Eurozone.
