In Ukraine, the project of creating barrier-free routes “Movement without barriers” was presented. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development. “In the pilot cities of Ukraine, together with the local authorities, we are starting the development and implementation of barrier-free routes. This is a specific transport and pedestrian path determined by the community, which will be organized as accessible as possible for people with disabilities and groups with limited mobility,” said Oleksiy Kuleba, Minister of Community and Territorial Development . According to him, on this route all locations will be accessible as much as possible – this includes intersections, crossings, schools, kindergartens, coffee shops, public transport, etc. There will be navigation signs, tactile markings and other solutions that will ensure not only comfort, but also people’s safety, the government official added. However, it is important that they include in themselves as many objects of social importance as possible, contained and combined important locations of the urban environment. For example, a military hospital in Kyiv is a key object for in the capital, or, for example, in the city of Dnipro – the Mechnikov hospital,” Kuleba emphasized. During this year, barrier-free routes with convenient entrances and approaches, transport, stops, sidewalks, public places will gradually appear in 12 cities: in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Zhytomyr, Kropyvnytskyi, Lviv, Rivne, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Slavutichi, Ternopil, Buchi and the villages of Opishnia. According to the plans of the Ministry of Development, the experience of the pilot communities will be scaled to other settlements that will join the project.
