Naoris Protocol has officially launched its quantum-resistant blockchain mainnet, a significant step aimed at enhancing security against the potential threats posed by future quantum computing capabilities. This innovative platform is designed to protect digital assets and transactions, ensuring resilience even in the face of advanced quantum attacks.
Nathaniel Szerezla, the chief growth officer of Naoris Protocol, emphasized the importance of this launch, stating, “The mainnet represents the transition from proof-of-concept to production infrastructure. The network has already validated over 100 million transactions using post-quantum cryptography. That is not a roadmap promise; it is measured, operational capacity.”
The launch comes at a critical time, as established cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum face increasing scrutiny over their vulnerability to what has been termed a “quantum apocalypse.” This scenario, referred to as Q-Day, represents the moment when quantum computers could potentially break the encryption methods that secure most blockchain networks.
Recent reports have heightened these concerns, with Google indicating that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer could compromise Bitcoin’s blockchain with less than 500,000 qubits—far fewer than earlier estimates suggested. Additionally, vulnerabilities in Ethereum have raised alarms, putting an estimated $100 billion at risk.
Given the irreversible nature of blockchain transactions, any existing weaknesses could be exploited by future quantum technologies. Naoris aims to address these vulnerabilities head-on. The protocol is built from the ground up using post-quantum cryptography and algorithms that have received approval from the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology.
One of the standout features of Naoris is its implementation of an “irreversible security transition.” This ensures that once users adopt post-quantum keys, they must utilize quantum-resistant signatures for all transactions. The protocol automatically blocks any attempts to use traditional cryptographic methods, thereby safeguarding assets against potential future threats.
Currently, Naoris’s quantum-resistant security is available exclusively on its mainnet. However, the protocol is designed with future scalability in mind, aiming to support wallets, exchanges, Layer 2 networks, and decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms.
The mainnet was initially launched with a select group of strategic participants who will operate the first validator nodes, establishing a foundational trust layer for the network. Prior to this launch, Naoris underwent an extensive testnet phase, during which it identified and mitigated over 603 million threats and processed more than 106 million post-quantum transactions, alongside creating over 3.3 million wallets and activating over one million security nodes globally.
The network’s native token, NAORIS, plays a crucial role in its functionality, helping to secure transactions, enforce protocols, and foster trust among users. As of the latest updates, the token’s market capitalization stands at approximately $36 million.
