The leader of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, spoke about the facts of corruption in the energy sector discovered by law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that effective measures are needed in the fight against corruption. The President reminded that Energoatom NPP today provides the largest volume of energy generation and the company’s top priority is transparency. Zelensky announced this in his traditional evening video address.
– Any effective steps in the fight against corruption extremely important. Retribution for what has been done must be inevitable. “Energoatom” currently provides the largest part of energy production in Ukraine. Transparency in the company is the main priority, Zelenskyi noted. – Everyone who organized the arrangements should receive a clear procedural reaction. There must be court decisions. And officials must cooperate with NABU, together with law enforcement agencies and work as necessary to achieve the result.
Previously, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) implemented a large-scale operation to expose corruption in the energy sector. “15 months of work and 1,000 hours of audio recordings. The activities of a high-level criminal organization were documented. Its members created a large corruption scheme to influence strategic enterprises of the public sector, in particular JSC NAEK Energoatom,” the departments reported.
- On November 10, it became known that the office of a criminal organization operated in the very center of Kyiv, through which legalization of funds obtained illegally as part of a large corruption scheme in the energy sector was carried out. The investigation revealed that approximately 100 million dollars passed through him.
- On November 10, NABU reported on the exposure of corruption in “Energoatom” and made public almost 22 minutes of conversations of those involved. In particular, “tapes” with the probable involvement of Mindich and Galushchenko were published.
