Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday, July 16, sent a submission to the Verkhovna Rada for approval of ex-Prime Minister Denis Schmigal for the post of Minister of Defense. The president stated this in his traditional evening address.
– Today I have already signed the documents to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Denis Schmigala as a new Minister of Defense. The Ministry of Defense will also be guided by strategic industries. Herman Smetanin will head Ukroboronprom, – said Head of State.
At the same time, Zelensky pointed to the main tasks for defense agencies – to reach the level of 50% of Ukrainian weapons in the first six months of work of the new government, increasing our own production. Now, according to him, the share of Ukrainian weapons on the front reaches 40% and this figure should be increased.
– Now Ukrainian weapons on the front, in all our operations – about 40%. This is much more Ukrainian production than ever since the independence of our country. The volumes are really large. But you need more. And we need more of our opportunities to push the war into the territory of Russia – to where the war was brought. To make them feel and what is the price of Putin’s refusal to cease fire and the real world. We need to reach 50% of Ukrainian weapons in the first six months of the new government, increasing our own production. I am sure that it can be realized, – the President said.
The Minister of Defense and the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Ukraine is appointed by a special procedure. The candidates for these positions are submitted by the President, and the final decision is made by the Verkhovna Rada. The rest of the ministers are offered by the Prime Minister, and he forms the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers, for which he then votes Parliament.
