On Monday, January 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a meeting of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Staff. The meeting discussed the issue of protecting Pokrovsk from Russian invasion. The head of state said this during the evening address.
– Conducted the Stavka, and there was also a lengthy separate report to the Central Committee of Syrskyi and the head of the General Staff, Bargilevich. The first is the protection of our front lines in the first place. I am grateful to all the brigades, to each of our soldiers, who are right there right now. We discussed the issue of teaming and rotation. The Army needs more internal systemic changes to make people management effective at all levels of the defense force. There were also today detailed reports of the responsible commanders regarding the formation and training of our brigades, he said.
A lot of attention was also paid to the Kursk operation at Stavka. The President reminded that during the five months of the ongoing operation, the Armed Forces managed to maintain a buffer zone on Russian territory and actively destroy Russian military potential there. During the Kursk operation, the enemy lost more than 38,000 soldiers in this direction alone, of which about 15,000 were irretrievably lost, the president noted. The Russians sent strong units to Kurshchyna, and soldiers from North Korea were deployed there. It is important that the occupier cannot now direct all this force to our other directions, in particular to Donetsk region, in particular against Sumy, Kharkiv region or Zaporizhzhia, Zelenskyy added.
- On January 5, Ukrainian defenders began offensive operations on the territory of the Kursk region of Russia.
- On January 1, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi visited the Kursk region. He visited our soldiers, and awarded some soldiers with awards.
