US prosecutors have filed a civil claim in order to return cryptocurrency owners worth $ 7.1 million associated with a fraudulent investment scheme repositories.

It is about the funds withdrawn from the US Department of Internal Security in December 2024.

According to the report, between June 2022 and July 2024, the accomplices of the scheme raised about $ 97 million. They convinced investors to transfer funds to allegedly escrow accounts for the purchase of oil storage facilities in Rotterdam and Houston. The victims were promised profit at the expense of renting these containers.

In fact, money was distributed in bank accounts, displayed abroad or converted to bitcoin, USDT, USDC, ETH and other digital assets. It is noted that part of the cryptocurrency was transferred to binance accounts.

Investigators were able to identify the “tens” of victims who have lost about $ 17.9 million.

If the court will approve the confiscation request, the money will be distributed between the victims in the case.
