The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has officially approved the use of the indigenous drone ‘Shwidun’ within its armed forces. This drone is noted for its high effectiveness in targeting enemy Shahed drones.
‘Shwidun’ has been specifically designed to intercept various types of enemy drones, including the Shahed-136, Geran, and Zala reconnaissance drones.
Constructed from durable composite materials, the drone weighs approximately 8 kg and boasts a wingspan of nearly 2 meters. It can reach altitudes of up to 6 km and achieve speeds exceeding 250 km/h.
With a range exceeding 70 km, ‘Shwidun’ is capable of effectively securing airspace over Ukrainian cities.
Innovative technological features allow the drone’s body to remain stable at high speeds, ensuring clear imagery for operators.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that ‘Shwidun’ has a low takeoff and landing speed, facilitating its return in the event of a lost target, allowing for reuse. The drone can remain airborne for over two hours.
Initial deployments of ‘Shwidun’ are already underway, providing protection to Ukrainian urban areas. Currently, it is reported to have one of the highest success rates against enemy Shahed drones among Ukrainian interceptors.
According to defense officials, the drone has successfully destroyed around one hundred enemy UAVs to date.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has authorized the operational use of the 'Shwidun' drone, designed to effectively intercept enemy UAVs. With impressive specifications and initial success in the field, it aims to enhance air defense capabilities over urban areas.
