President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived at the White House. He was met by American leader Donald Trump. The head of the United States smiled and shook his hand firmly, while making a compliment about his appearance. “I love it,” Trump said, referring to Zelensky’s black jacket.

The preliminary visit of Zelensky Zelensky to the White House was six months ago, in February, and turned into a quarrel. Then the Ukrainian delegation left the White House ahead of schedule. IN Zelensky’s American administration was criticized, in particular because he was not a suit. This time, the President of Ukraine also arrived in a traditional suit and without a tie – it had a black shirt and a black jacket.

Initially, a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian and American delegations will be held at the White House. Then there are wider negotiations with the participation of UK, France, Italy, Germany, Finland, the President of the European Commission and NATO Secretary General.

European leaders hope that their presence in the White House will be a powerful gesture of solidarity with Ukraine. They will be expected to discuss what security guarantees will be able to provide Ukraine in the event of hostilities.

• Trump announced a “Great Day” in the White House before the meeting, saying that Zelensky “could end the war quickly.” The head of the Ukrainian state, in turn, emphasized that the world should be long and expressed the hope that partners would be able to ensure the safety of Ukrainians.
• On the evening of August 18, Zelensky held a meeting with European countries in Washington before negotiating with American leader Donald Trump.
