In a comment to the media, Gambarian said that although he is not a political figure, he led several high-profile investigations during Trump’s last presidential term as a federal agent IRS.
“If given the opportunity, I would be honored to serve my country again and work alongside the incredible men and women in federal law enforcement who worked tirelessly to bring me back to my family,” he added.
Binance CEO Richard Teng commented on the possible transfer of his colleague to the Trump team:
“For now, Tigran is still a member of our staff, so let’s see what his intentions are. I am not privy to his thoughts. I am not privy to the process of the US administration.”
It will be recalled that last year the Nigerian authorities detained Gambarian and Binance director in West and East Africa, Nadeem Anjarwalla, as part of an investigation into money laundering and non-payment of taxes by the exchange.
Gambarian spent eight months at Kuje Correctional Center in Abuja. In October, the Nigerian government dropped all charges against him. Diplomatic intervention and the degree of involvement of the defendant in the alleged crimes were cited as the main reasons for the termination of the criminal prosecution.
