Europe should focus on the practical use of artificial intelligence instead of the pursuit of capacity. This was stated Bloomberg.
“Do we really need to build five datentyrs and fill them with chip? This is the need of Europe? I doubt, ”he said.
According to Klein, large linguistic models gradually become a mass product – they can already be used without extraordinary computing capacities.
“This was proved by Deepeseek,” he added.
Business should focus on the implementation of AI to optimize their own processes.
The EU is currently lagging behind the United States in the construction of SI infrastructure. In January, US companies joined the Stargate project with plans to invest $ 500 billion in the industry. In response, the European Commission has initiated the Investai program, which involves the attraction of € 200 billion, including 20 billion to create Gigaffers.
In July, OpenAi rented 4.5 GW of capacity in Oracle datapentrators. It is equivalent to the energy generated by several nuclear reactors and is enough to power millions of households. To do this, Oracle, along with partners, will launch several dataenterists throughout the United States.
In June, Nvidia Jenzen Juang visited the EU and stated that the main obstacle to the region was a lack of capacity. He announced new partnerships to launch thousands of branded chips.
Klein considers the pursuit of the states in vain. However, in January, during a forum in Davos CEO SAP, he called Stargate “a great example for Europe” and maintained the launch of a similar initiative in the region.
Adjustment: Preference or Brake for the EU? On August 1, 2024, the Law on Artificial Intellect came into force in the EU. The main provisions are introduced in stages:
- February 2, 2025-prohibition of SI systems that create unacceptable risks (such as manipulation, deception or social rating);
- August 2, 2025 – standards for regulation of general purpose models (GPAI);
- August 2, 2026 – Restrictions for high risk systems, including biometrics, critical infrastructure and education.
Large European companies, including ASML, Airbus, and Mistral AI, have called for two years regulation. In a letter to Ursula von der Lien, they warned that the hasty introduction threatens the competitiveness of the continent.
“Delayed with focus on the quality of regulation will be a clear signal for investors and developers that Europe really wants to simplify the rules and stay in the game,” the document reads.
Business complains about the lack of key recommendations and standards, including the Code of Practices for compliance with new requirements. The signatures were made by representatives of more than 45 companies, including Mercedes-Benz, BNP Paribas, Lufthansa, Publicis, Prosus and Siemens Energy. The letter was initiated by the EU AI Champions Initiative group headed by General Catalyst.
Recall that in the summer of 2024 Apple launched Apple Intelligence in the EU because of “regulatory uncertainty”.
