Finland President Alexander Stubb, after a seven -hour meeting with US President Donald Trump, said the United States was developing sanctions against Russia in case of ceasefire in Ukraine or its violation. About it reports “European Truth” with reference to Yle. Stubb on Sunday at a press conference in London initially noted that Finland considers April 20 a successful date to start a complete ceasefire without any conditions.
– Why April 20? Because we are Need Deadline. Because it is Easter. And because President Trump has been in office for three months, ”the Finnish president explained.
According to Stubb, if Russia does not agree to the truce or breaks it, a strong mechanism of sanctions will need to be introduced. He said that such sanctions are being prepared in the United States.
– We also discussed it with President Trump and Senator Lindsey Grame, an architect of the sanctions package. And in the near future he will offer it with the support of fifty senators in the United States, – said the Finnish President.
Lindsey Graham was also at a meeting in Florida, where Stubb and Trump, among other things, played golf. At a press conference, Stubba was asked separately what Trump was thinking about these sanctions.
– Graham and Trump President have a relationship. Of course, not everything that Senator Graham plans will come true. But I got the impression that patience is bursting on the US – and this, in my opinion, is good, – the Finnish president appreciated.
According to Stubb, Trump’s patience also breaks.
– He is very impatient in Russia’s actions, to this conspiracy and delay in ceasefire. I tried to explain that it was quite normal behavior of Russia. At first you agree on something and then put the conditions again, – he said.
Stubb called for Senator Graham’s statements to monitor the next few days.
– I saw some of them (sanctions), and if they materialize, it will have a very big influence, – said the Finnish President.
Stubb noted that Trump said that Russia only understood power. This means sanctions and use of frozen Russian funds to support Ukraine. According to Stubba, Trump himself asked “Can Vladimir Putin be trusted.”
– I replied that I could not.
Finland President Alexander Stubb made an informal visit to the United States on Saturday to meet US President Donald Trump in Florida. Both leaders discussed the strengthening of bilateral partnership, the situation in Ukraine and played in golf. Senator Lindsey Graham joined the Trump team, which he reported in his post on X. He also praised Golf Stubba, who played Golf, being a student at Furman’s University in his native state of South Carolina.
