On November 27, the Higher Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine found the operative guilty DKIB SBU in demanding and receiving $60,000 in cryptocurrency for the return of the equipment illegal miners.
According to the case file, in July 2022, an SBU employee demanded a $60,000 bribe from an entrepreneur for help in returning ASIC miners seized as part of an investigation into electricity theft in Eastern Ukraine. He also promised not to prevent further mining of cryptocurrencies.
The entrepreneur informed about the received “offer” in NABU.
The court sentenced the SBU employee to 10 years in prison with confiscation of property, in particular cryptocurrencies for a total amount of more than $58,000. He was also banned from holding positions in law enforcement agencies for three years and deprived of the rank of colonel.
The verdict can be appealed within 30 days.
Earlier, ForkLog reported that the State Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine sentenced People’s Deputy Andrii Odarchenko in absentia to eight years in prison with confiscation of property for attempting to pay a bribe in bitcoins.
