The International Monetary Fund postponed to consultations with Russia were scheduled for an indefinite period, which were supposed to be the first since the beginning of President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. The decision was made against the background of criticism from the countries of the European Union.

Bloomberg writes that representatives of the fund informed Russia and the board of directors of the IMF that the mission is being postponed due to “technical” reasons, said Oleksiy Mozhin, executive director from Russia at the credit organization.

Russian officials are well aware that European states oppose the resumption of cooperation between the IMF and Moscow, Mozhin noted.

The IMF was due to hold online talks with Russian counterparts on Monday as part of a so-called Article IV review ahead of a planned visit to Moscow to meet with government and central bank officials. The IMF last visited Russia in 2019.
