The first solar power plant was opened in the Chernobyl zone. Another SES promise to open soon. About it reports a correspondent of RBC-Ukraine.

The power of the first solar power plant in the Chernobyl zone is 763 kW, the area of ​​construction is almost 4000 square meters. According to Svetlana Grinchuk, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine, the discussion on the construction of the project began in 2019, but because of the war the process tightened.

– Why is it important? Because for many years we say that the alienation zone should be turned into a Renaissance zone. And this territory, like no other in Ukraine, is suitable for developing renewable energy, solar and wind generation projects here, – the minister stressed.

The station is built with the support of Spain, in the summer they will open the second, twice as powerful. The cost of construction was UAH 30 million. According to Grinchuk, the opening of the station is an important step, especially in the conditions of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy. Energy from the solar power plant will provide administrative buildings and objects of the exclusion zone.

She added that the corresponding infrastructure for the implementation of new projects remained in the Chernobyl zone, and the territory has a special status. According to Grinchuk, the exclusion zone can become a hub of renewable energy.
