For those tourists for whom it is important to get to the city without using planes, but by train, the experts of the Byway Travel service, who promote the maximum rejection of air transport, have named the best Christmas markets in Europe, which can be easily reached by train.

1. Strasbourg, France. This is the oldest Christmas market in France, which this year will be held from November 24 to December 24. The main treat of the local fair is spicy mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. It’s easy to get there by train from Paris – as a bonus, you can enjoy wonderful views of the Champagne and Lorraine regions from the window, and tourists from Great Britain can also take the Eurostar train from London to the French capital.

2. Bruges, Belgium. The Christmas market in this beautiful medieval city, also known as the “Venice of the North”, lasts quite a long time – from November 22nd until January 5th. As in the case of Strasbourg, the city is well connected by train with all of Belgium and many neighboring countries, and from Great Britain you can get there by train via the Belgian capital Brussels.

3. Cologne, Germany. German Christmas fairs are considered one of the most traditional in Europe, because it is in this country that the tradition of organizing such celebrations was born. Cologne’s Christmas markets are one of the most famous in Germany. Starting at Cologne Cathedral, located directly opposite the city’s main train station, the holiday markets stretch throughout the old town. At the same time, Cologne is one of the main railway hubs in Germany, and therefore hundreds of trains pass through it every day. The easiest way to get there from Great Britain is by train via Brussels. This year, the Cologne Christmas Market will run from November 23rd to December 23rd.

As reported by UNIAN, the Europe’s Best Destinations tourist portal previously identified the most ecological Christmas fairs in Europe.
