Store oil and potatoes: pricing is horrible

Experts predict the rise in prices for the components of the favorite dish of Ukrainians – fried potatoes. Why is potatoes and oil more expensive, Experts from the Proagro Group explain. Analysts advise consumers not to panic, but carefully monitor the promotional offers and stock up on the current prices.

Potato Prices for potatoes in Ukraine in the fall of 2025 will remain higher than consumers expected. According to Taras Bashtannik, the President of the Ukrainian Fruit and Embled Association, “there will be no potatoes of 5 hryvnias – it will be 10.” The reason is the reduction of landing areas, the increase in logistics and energy costs, as well as unstable weather in key regions.

Despite the expectation for the cheaper of the “borsch set”, it is potatoes that demonstrates stability in price. Experts predict that by the end of September the price will stabilize within 9-11 UAH/kg, depending on quality and region. At the same time, imported potatoes may appear on the market in October, but it will not reduce the total price level.

Sunflower oil The food market is rising a new price jump: sunflower oil, one of the key products of the consumer basket, can go up to 100 UAH per liter in the near future. Experts associate this with several factors – both internal and external. First of all, the decrease in sunflower yield in certain regions of Ukraine due to protracted heat and uneven precipitation has already reduced the supply of raw materials. Secondly, the growth of world prices for vegetable oils, including Palm and Soyev, stimulates the export of Ukrainian products, which reduces its availability in the domestic market. In addition, logistics, energy and packaging continue to rise, which directly affects the final price for the consumer. Processors are already warning about the possible adjustment of pricing strategies in October -November, when the main volume of the new crop will enter the market.

It is estimated that the current dynamics are remained, the retail price of sunflower oil can reach 95-100 UAH/liter, especially in the premium brand and packaged products. This will be the highest since the beginning of 2022. At the same time, manufacturers call the government to dialogue to stabilize the domestic market and support the processing industry.

According to the informant, meat prices in 2025 are increasing. Over the last three months, the retail cost of pork has not dropped below 250 UAH/kg. In particular, in June, the average price reached 253.2 UAH/kg, which is almost 32% higher compared to the same period last year (191.9 UAH/kg). This was stated in the Association “Pigs of Ukraine”. Experts explain such dynamics, first of all, increasing the purchase prices for industrial pork.
