The Republic of Korea has rejected Pyongyang’s claims that Seoul invaded North Korea’s airspace with drones. This is reported by Bloomberg, informs UNN.
Details According to information from the South Korean Ministry of Defense, the drones that Pyongyang talked about – both in September reports and in reports earlier this month – are not models used by South Korea’s armed forces.
The military also lacks any data on the use of drones on the day indicated by North Korea.
“We have no intention of provoking or causing enmity in North Korea. We will continue to take effective measures and make efforts to reduce tensions and increase trust between the two Koreas,” South Korea’s defense ministry said.
The North Korean military, in a statement published by the state-run KCNA agency, said that on January 4, with the help of “special EW means,” they shot down a drone that allegedly came from South Korea’s Incheon. According to the military’s version, the drone was equipped with two cameras that filmed the North Korean territory.
“We strongly condemn the series of hooligans’ flagrant encroachments on our sovereignty and unconcealed provocative actions against us,” said a statement from a representative of the General Staff of the North Korean Armed Forces.
South Korea convened a working meeting of the National Security Council to respond to the drone claims. The Ministry of Defense stated that it would conduct a detailed investigation into the possible involvement of civilians in the flights in cooperation with the relevant state structures.
We will remind North Korea has issued a sharp condemnation of Seoul after it shot down a drone that Pyongyang says was conducting reconnaissance over its territory. The North Korean military leadership called the incident an “open provocation” and a violation of state sovereignty.
