How to behave on water bodies in winter and what to do if you find yourself in icy water: the police gave advice

After the first frosts, ice appeared on the reservoirs of Ukraine. Law enforcement officials once again reminded citizens of the rules of safe behavior on water bodies in the winter period, and also explained in detail what to do if you accidentally find yourself in icy water, reports UNN.

The police emphasize that the following are not allowed on reservoirs in winter:

📌 go out on the ice if you are not sure of its thickness and strength;

📌 check the stability of the ice by kicking;

📌 ski down a steep slope onto untested ice;

📌 gather on the ice in large groups of people in one place;

📌 go out on the ice at the confluence of rivers, as well as when there is a fast river current in this area;

📌 engage in fishing during the crisis;

📌 go out on the ice in the dark;

📌 drink alcoholic beverages near bodies of water.

If it so happens that you find yourself in icy water and there are no people nearby, spread your arms wide to the sides and try to stay on the surface. Try to carefully, without sudden movements, get out onto the solid ice and move in a sledge towards the shore

– the message says.

Law enforcement officials also recommend that parents closely monitor their children and educate them about the risks associated with thin ice.

Remember, your safety is in your hands, so think carefully before stepping out onto the ice

– stressed the representatives of law enforcement.
