Physicists from California University in Irvain have observed a new state of quantum matter, first recorded in the experiment.

The phase is similar to the liquid formed by electrons and electronic holes – positively charged quasing. They spontaneously mate and form exotic states known as excitons. Non -standard is that in the described case, both components have the same spin.
According to Hauregi, theoretically, such a condition was expected, but never been experimentally observed.
“It’s something completely new. If we could hold it in our hands, it would glow with a bright, high -frequency light, ”he added.
The formation of a new quantum phase was achieved in the sample of the Hafnium Pentateluru (HFTE5). The key was to use an intense magnetic field up to 70 Tesla – for comparison, in a household magnet this figure is only 0.1 Tesla.
“When we put the field, the electrical conductivity suddenly decreased. This indicates the transition to a new exotic state, ”said Liu, a postdok in the Haurgy Laboratory, who developed material involved in the experiment.
According to Liu, the opening allows to transfer signals not by electric charge, but a spin – this can be the basis for creating energy efficient quantum or spinrony devices.
Another advantage is that matter in the new state is not sensitive to any type of radiation, which opens the prospects for use in electronics for space flights.
“It can be useful for missions in space. If you need computers that can withstand extreme conditions, here’s one of the solutions, ”Hauregi emphasized.
