The Canadian Ministry of Health has approved the start of clinical studies of Neuralink neurochips. Recruitment of volunteers is open, Elon Musk’s company announced.

One of the largest research and medical centers in Canada, the University Health Network (UHN), announced that its Toronto Western Hospital will be the first outside the United States to implant a wireless brain-computer interface (BCI) from Neuralink.

The institution conducts research in the field of neurology, psychiatry, genetics and other medical disciplines. New treatment methods and technologies are being developed here.

“We are incredibly proud to be at the forefront of this research advancement in neurosurgery. […] As the first and exclusive surgical center in Canada to perform this procedure, we will continue to shape the future of neurological care […],” said UHN President and CEO Kevin Smith.

As part of the research CAN-PRIME plans to “evaluate the safety of the implant and surgical robot, the functionality of the BCI, and the possibility of giving people the ability to control external devices with the power of thought.”

“This landmark operation has the potential to transform and improve outcomes for patients who have previously had limited options,” commented CAN-PRIME study leader Andres Lozano.

We will remind you that in September, Neuralink started looking for volunteers to test the Blindsight implant, which makes it possible to restore sight.

Earlier, the company talked about the success of the second patient who had a neurochip implanted in the brain.
