The European leader in artificial intelligence Mistral AI is planning an IPO, CEO of the startup Artur Mensch said on Bloomberg TV.
“Sure, that’s the plan,” he replied journalist’s question.
His company is opening an office in Singapore to focus development in the Asia-Pacific region. It is also expanding its presence in Europe and the USA.
Mistral was launched in early 2023 by ex-employees of DeepMind and Meta. The company positions itself as a European competitor to OpenAI. The firm released a tool similar to ChatGPT, Le Chat.
In September 2024, the startup presented a neural network with multimodality capabilities.
Mensch claims that his company can launch models cheaper than competitors. It is aimed at European customers who are concerned about data processing outside the EU.
Mistral AI is inferior to American competitors in the field of financing. In June, the firm raised €600 million ($640 million) in equity and debt capital at a valuation of $6 billion. Before that, the company was sponsored for €385 million ($402 million).
It will be recalled that in January 2025, the American Anthropic attracted another $1 billion from Google.
Before that, OpenAI received $6.6 billion for valuations of $157 billion. The deal was one of the largest venture capital investments in history.
