In cooperation with the police, the UK Ministry of Internal Affairs is preparing for the realization of confiscated digital assets – at least $ 7 billion in bitcoins. About it reports The Telegraph with reference to its own sources.
It is in particular about 61,000 BTCs that were removed as part of the Chinese Financial Pyramid investigation. Despite the request of the victims demanding to repay the funds, the royal prosecutor’s office appealed to the court to transfer assets to the budget.
In parallel, the government has announced a tender for the creation of a centralized service for storage and implementation of the removed cryptocurrencies. The expected cost of the contract is up to $ 53.7 million, the validity is at least four years. At the same time, according to The Telegraph, there was no acceptable proposal at the time of the publication.
Another problem is the confiscation procedure. As stated in the tender documentation, the average between the arrest of assets and the permit for their sale takes up to one year, and in difficult cases-up to three to four years.
Recall that from January 1, 2026, the UK Tax Service will begin to require information about cryptocurrency owners for tax purposes.
