The man expressed dissatisfaction with the work of the “smart meter”, which has not transmitted data autonomously for seven years
The resident filed a complaint out of necessity on his own to send counter readings, since the automated data transmission did not work during the entire time of operation of the device. The appeal was published on August 20 under the post DTEK Kyivskie elektromerezhe.
The “smart” meter installed in his apartment more than seven years ago still requires manual data entry into the DTEK system. Automation of device operation remains an unsolved problem.
“Seventh year (or eighth – I don’t remember exactly) the meter is called “smart”, but without my participation it does not send the indicators. Over the years, they have not been able to cope with automation, perhaps due to the small number of apartments in the building – only 28,” the client recalled.
DTEK’s answer The company’s representatives noted that the process of integration of automated commercial electricity accounting systems continues throughout the capital in stages.
“Your appeal has been taken into consideration. Please send the exact address for a detailed analysis of the equipment’s operation,” said DTEK.
Why do two-zone counters not transmit data on their own? YASNO company specialists previously explained that consumers sometimes mistakenly identify dual-zone meters with “smart” ones. In fact, these are devices with different functionality:
- “Smart” meters are part of the automated commercial accounting system (ASCOE). They autonomously transmit not only consumption data, but also information about accidents, overloads, and technical failures. Such a device can be single-zone or two-zone. Replacing ordinary meters with “smart” ones in high-rise buildings is usually carried out comprehensively for all apartments.
- Two-zone meters — record energy consumption separately for day and night periods (from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.). A reduced tariff applies for night consumption. If this meter is not integrated into ASKOE, its indicators will not be transmitted automatically — consumers have to independently report the data every month, separately for two tariff zones.
According to DTEK, from 2025, about 28,000 “smart” devices will be installed in the capital. This is not a simple replacement of equipment, but part of the global ASKOE system, which enables:
- automatically register the use of electricity;
- send information without user participation;
- promptly detect technical malfunctions.
The full transition to “smart” meters in Kyiv is planned to be completed by 2034 as part of the investment program approved by the regulator NKREKP. You can check the terms of updating the equipment in your home by following the link.
