In Portugal, the scandal over the school geography textbook for 7th grade. The book included temporarily occupied Ukrainian Crimea to Russia. This was stated by the chairman of the Union of Ukrainians Pavel Sadokh on his Facebook.
According to Sadokha, the textbook was provided by a Ukrainian studying at the Portuguese school. From Ukraine he was forced to leave through the Russian invasion and is in a foreign country with a refugee status.
– With regret We would like to inform that in the eleventh year of Russian aggression against Ukraine, contrary to the official political position of the Portuguese Republic, the Ministry of Education of Portugal offers secondary schools in Portugal in geography for students of 7th grade, where the territory of the Crimea Peninsula is defined as such as Russia.
According to him, the textbook states that in the period from the IX to the XII century the territory of Ukraine and Russia is marked as the “Russian principality”. The Union emphasizes that this information does not correspond to the historical scientific position of Ukraine and is part of the Russian narrative.
– In this regard, we ask the Main Inspectorate of Education and Science to check which sources the authors of the textbook have used information about Crimea and history of Russia, and to amend the textbook that will correspond to historical facts and international recognition of the territories of sovereign states, – the statement reads.
