The neural network demonstrated performance comparable to or superior to average ophthalmologists in diagnosing 12 eye diseases. It outperformed the fundamental RETFound model in predicting and progressing glaucoma, the researchers emphasized.
The development of VisionFM takes place against the background of the growing use of artificial intelligence in medical research.
In February, scientists at the University of California found a way to predict Alzheimer’s seven years before symptoms appear. In March, the University of Ottawa announced the use of AI models to study cardiovascular diseases.
