In the villages of the Chernihiv region, residents are urgently harvesting fruit because they are afraid that they will be damaged by air polluted by smoke. A volunteer group led by Oleksiy Vladimirov delivered a large batch of fruits for the villagers of the region.
Vera Ivanivna plucks all the apples from her garden, says that the harvest must be saved. After all, it is not known what is in the air, because even during the day people drive with their headlights on and the smoke eats out their eyes.
“I don’t know what that winter will be like, they say it’s hard, and God forbid, you can’t even buy anything it will be like during the occupation, and even though there will be apples, I don’t even know what is burning there and how to eat those apples later,” the woman laments.
Volodymyr, a migrant from Donetsk region who is worried about his harvest and grows 33 varieties of grapes on five hectares, moved to Radychev from Donetsk region in 2020, where he had vineyards on the shores of the Sea of Azov. He started life in Chernihiv Oblast with a clean slate. “Everything had to be done in a new way: to start construction. It’s already difficult, because the grapes need attention every day, then something will happen. This is not a country house option – I came for the weekend. You have to live in a place, then something will come out,” says Volodymyr.
Neighboring villages are suffocating. Mother Seraphim also collects fruits from the church garden, because it is important to preserve them for Lent.
“War does not cancel fasting, when two years ago there was an attack on our village, as soon as fasting was over we were released and there was nothing, people were exhausted not so much from fasting as from the occupation they had experienced. But we prayed and help came.”
Then, a volunteer group led by Oleksiy Vladimirov brought a large batch of fruit to the believers – pears, apples, grapes and tangerines – in the village of Chernihiv Oblast.
“That’s how we survived the fast, says the believer Olga, so now we are preparing in advance, and here is such an attack with these fires…”
Currently, people are advised not to panic, close the windows, minimize being outside, drink more water, and if there is an air purifier, turn it on to the maximum.
