In several cities in Greenland, large -scale protests against the statements of the United States Donald Trump have erupted about the possible establishment of control over the island. About it writes Dagens Nyheter.
According to the newspaper, in the capital of Greenland – Nuiuza, about a thousand people came to the demonstration, which was the greatest protest in the history of the island. Similar protests were held in Sisimita, the second largest population of the city. Given that only 57,000 people live in Greenland, and about 19,000 in Nuuk, such a mass involvement of locals in protests is considered a significant event.
“We can have different views on many questions, but we are all the only ones,” said the leader of the Liberal Party Demokraatit Jens Frederick Nielsen.
The protesters kept posters with the inscriptions in English: “Yankee Go Home” and “We Are Not for Sale” (we are not sold). The main slogan of the shares was “Greenland belongs to the Greenland people.” However, Trump’s supporters were also noticed in Nuiuk, some of them wore Maga caps. In this regard, rally organizers called on the use of English by banners to avoid possible manipulation.
Demonstrations in Greenland became a reaction to Trump’s words about the intention to take the island under control. He stated that Greenland residents allegedly wanted to join the United States. According to Jens-Frederick Nielsen, the American president ignores the opinion of the Greenland themselves. He hopes that large -scale protests will clearly demonstrate the fallacy of such statements.
