Patriarch Filaret signed his spiritual will, which was published on the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
The information department of the church stated that Filaret approved and signed his spiritual testament to the entire community of Ukrainian Orthodoxy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the patriarchal service.
– In the event of my death, I order that the rite of mourning and burial be performed in the Volodymyr Cathedral Patriarchal Church of Kyiv by the archbishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, not the OCU, it is stated in the spiritual testament.
In his spiritual testament, Filaret also called for the convening of a unification council in Kyiv with the aim of creating “a truly unified Ukrainian Orthodox Church, free from the influence of both Moscow and Constantinople, with a patriarchal system of governance.”
Filaret’s spiritual will states that he “is not the honorary patriarch of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, as its representatives and leadership claim.”
On October 19, the 30th anniversary of Filaret’s enthronement was also celebrated in the Volodymyr Cathedral. On October 20, 1995, he was elected head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
